With a plant shut down for electrical work, a long-time Steele customer decided to take advantage of the downtime. George Campbell, one of Steele’s resident extrusion experts, traveled to Arkansas to conduct an on-site seminar on changing sealing augers.
George opened up one of our pug sealers on the plant floor, for a hands-on demonstration of sealing auger replacement. He also showed the associates how to replace the sealing core, die and test ring. Next up, a review of how to align the rear wing with the front pug knife.
An inspection of the extruder and pug sealer gear sets revealed minimal wear. The pug tub, however, had knifes and shanks missing, with a complete replacement set scheduled for installation during the outage.
George arrived at the plant at 7:35AM and left at 2PM. He helped our customer take advantage of plant downtime with a class on more effective pug sealer maintenance.
