The Steele Smooth Roll Crusher plays a key role in bulk raw material preparation, processing clays, coal fines, coke breeze and gypsum waste. Twin rollers reduce pebbles and plastic lumps to form thin, flat discs, strips or sheets of material for additional processing or pugging.

Crushing and shearing improve mix quality, so we use a twin-speed roller design. The slow roller turns at approximately 280 rpm and is paired with a fast roller running at approximately 290 rpm.

Improved shearing action for better mixing

The slow roller’s face width is sprung, so uncrushable objects can pass through without damaging the machine. The fast roller is fixed, not sprung. The difference in rpm generates additional shearing and improves self-cleaning on the roll shell surfaces.

We cast our rollers with a high chrome alloy renewable shell, to extend periods between required resurfacing. Steele recommends maintaining spare smooth rollers mounted on centers and shafts, for resurfacing and exchange with worn rollers as necessary.

Reliable operation with minimal maintenance

Our smooth roll crusher, like all Steele machinery, is built for decades of reliable operation. Spherical roller bearings are self-aligning and grease lubricated. Castings, other than wear parts, are virtually indestructible ductile SG iron.
